By following some candle care guidelines you can get the most out of your candle.
Before lighting, always trim your wick to 1/4". This prevents 'mushrooming' of the wick, allows for a slower burn, and prevents any build up of soot. Our wicks are specially designed and hand selected to compliment the size of our candle holders to minimise mushrooming.
When lighting your LS Apothecary Candle for the first time, do not extinguish the candle until the wax melts across entire surface to the sides of glassware. This will help prevent tunnelling and creates an even burn for the duration of the candle’s ‘life’. Depending on your environment, this may take anywhere from 2-4 hours
As our candles come in white holders, we recommend using either a long match or grill lighter to light the wick. This helps avoid any unsightly soot marks on the glass, and will make lighting the wick easier as the candle burns down.
Candles should not be burned for more than 4 hours at a time, and allowed to cool for 2 hours between each burn. Don't tire your candle out - avoid overheating and allow it to rest
At times a carbon mushroom may appear at the top of the wick, this is unburned carbon that has collected on the wick. If this happens to your candle, extinguish it and let cool and trim the wick to 1/4" and re-light your candle.
Be careful not to allow any trimmings to fall into the wax as this creates a fire hazard; We recommend using a wick trimmer to catch any small pieces.
If you candle begins to smoke, flicker or the candle flame becomes too high; extinguish your candle at once. These signs indicate the candle is not burning properly and the flame isn't controlled. Let your candle cool, trim the wick, then check for draughts before re-lighting
Always extinguish your LS Apothecary Candle with a snuffer, or use our preferred method - dip the wick into melted wax and then lift the wick out of the wax and straighten. Do not blow out the flame
 Trim wick before relighting.
Do not burn candle when wax is 1/2" or less from the bottom of the container as it may cause the glass holder to overheat. Always be sure to burn your candle on a heat proof, level surface, away from any flammable objects.
Our soy wax is bio-degradable and cleans up with hot soapy water.
